"FOOD STANDARDS AGENCY IN GM RICE ROW"
The Govt's Food Standards' Agency (FSA) food watchdog is facing a legal challenge over claims it failed to take sufficient precautions to stop GM rice entering the food chain. Friends of the Earth has taken the first steps towards bringing a judicial review after tests revealed GM contamination in rice sold at Morrisons supermarket. A leaked memo reveals the FSA privately told retailers & manufacturers that it does not expect them to remove contaminated rice from their shelves or to test for contamination.

Welcome to the Green Network Charitable Trust webiste.

Steve Dale, website manager.

Green Network was founded in 1989 by five people who wished to encourage others concerned about environmental problems, to link together and to become actively involved in a constructive and a non-confrontational way. They wanted to be able to provide professional information in layman's terms.

Green Network seeks to understand and explain the possible environment and health risks linked to some of the modern technologies, such as agricultural pesticides, household products (including flea and headlice treatments, insect sprays and wood preservatives) and genetically modified organisms.

Green Network links together interested parties concerned with different aspects of these issues; gathering information from each of them to light the whole picture, including the effect and spread of toxic chemical contamination. We then co-ordinate the use and dissemination of this evidence to raise public and official awareness of these problems and to seek solutions. In this way the network has moved to National and International levels. This development was due to the dedication of volunteers and the increasing number of small groups and organisations who became affiliated to the Green Network including marketing companies of Organic products and the new Magazine 'Go Organic'

Green Network is also a member of national organisations such as HDRA, Sustain, the Soil Association, consequently strengthening the network

Green Network is dedicated to obtaining and passing on information on environmental pollution and health so that we can all make choices about the way we live and eat and the household products we buy.

"Many people hold parts of the puzzle, but no-one carries the complete picture. Through interlinking, Green Network UK aims to help join the pieces together and construct realistic solutions."

We seek to address the rising public concern about health issues by providing independent scientifically based information to assist people in assessing the risks.

Another aspect of our work is to inform the people who make decisions for us, such as M.P's and supermarket buyers.
